Magazine Frenzy Follows Death of Michael Jackson

15 Jul 2009

Magazines continue to feed off the frenzy surrounding the death of musical superstar Michael Jackson. In the hours following Jackson's death a slew of news, music and celebrity magazines rushed to publish commemorative issues - or at least, feature Jackson as the cover story.

As reported on Fiolio.com, Rolling Stone magazine has produced a special 96 page issue commemorating Jackson's life and career. The issue has a 700,000 print run up from the magazines usual 450,000. American Media Inc's UK based Globe magazine, put out a 100 page, one off commemorative issue in less than 48 hours. A company spokesperson said the special issue had a print run of around 1 million and so far 600,000 copies have been sold off the newsstands. Hip Hop Weekly magazine also published a commemorative issue with a print run of 250,000 with the company expecting to sell "almost all of them."

While some publishers have declined to comment, other says they have seen similar success off the newsstands with Bauer's In Touch and Life & Style selling an estimated 1 million and 600,000 copies respectively. Whilst neither of these were commemorative editions they did feature Michael Jackson on the cover.
