Air passengers may soon be getting a literary boost thanks to a new offer from the Oneworld alliance. Starting in June 2009, travellers passing through selected European airports can download three audiobooks for free.
Oneworld includes American Airlines, British Airways, JAL just to name a few, offers the service over wifi at the airports. Consumers can download audiobooks to their laptops, smartphones and PDA's - any device that connects to the airports wifi networks. The titles cover such categories as fiction, business, society and travel and are available in a number of languages.
This new initiatives complements Oneworld's existing ‘Travel Stations' which enable users to download travel advice and information on to mobile devices, and its ‘Charging Stations where people can recharge their devices. In an unusually bold marketing move all travellers, whether they are Oneworld customers or not, are invited to make the most of the benefits.
It is a relatively cost effective way of treating customers, requiring little infrastructure or installation to generate value added benefits as part of their travel package and providing these services as a brand building exercise.
