National Times Comeback after 1986

16 Jun 2009

After closing down over 23 years ago The National Times is being relaunched, in August of this year, as an online publication. The move by Fairfax Media has taken many of the former editors by surprise and as reported in The Australian, many believe the announcement comes as a response to the newly launched online opinion site The Punch which is controlled by former Daily Telegraph editor David Penberthy.

The founding editor-in-chief of The National Times, Vic Carroll was reported as saying "It's hard to understand, I don't know whether it means anything to many people except for journalists."

On a more positive note, Max Suich, a former editor believes: "There is nothing to stop that material being featured on the web - The New Yorker and Harper's Bazaar do it very well, so there are readers to maintain such a service."
