Publisher Morry Schwartz appoints the "perfect editor" to replace Sally Warhaft at The Monthly

26 May 2009

Following the unceremonious exit of Sally Warhaft as editor of The Monthly, publisher Morry Schwartz has announced the appointment of 23 year-old wunderkind Ben Naparstek to the role.

According to The Weekend Australian, Naparstek originally applied for the role when he was just 18, with Schwartz turning him down for being too young. “Now it is his turn,” said Schwartz. “He understands writing. I see him as the perfect editor. He’s really strong. He’s a good writer himself”

Despite his tender age, Naparstek, who until recently was completing his PhD at university in Baltimore, is a widely published literary critic whose work has appeared worldwide in publications including The Jerusalem Post, The Sydney Morning Herald, The South China Morning Post and The Vancouver Times.

Naparstek is set to take up his new post this week.
